Meanwhile, the regulatory picture remains fragmented. Frameworks such as the EU’s AI Act and the US NIST AI Risk Management Framework are emerging but have yet to offer the clarity and global consistency required for wide-scale enterprise adoption.

These opaque frameworks leaves many businesses in limbo – keen to align with future compliance demands, but hesitant to commit to policies that might soon be outdated.

In this vacuum, competitive pressure to adopt AI quickly often trumps the case for deliberate, policy-led deployment.

But moving fast without governance can lead to fragmented systems, unclear accountability, and heightened operational risks.

The path forward is clear: if businesses are serious about leveraging AI safely and sustainably, they must prioritise governance now.
